I am interested in applying to work at TRF this year. Does anyone know how strict they are about taking one weekend off? Halloween is a big deal for my friends and I, we celebrate it the way some people celebrate Christmas, so I'd want to take that weekend off if at all possible. Would that put me out of the job running, or would that be a workable thing?

It runs, what, 7 weekends? That's 15 days (inc Thnksgvng Friday)? I'm thinking they might kind of frown on that. My friend who worked their last year couldn't get off.

It runs 8 week-ends, including Thanksgiving Friday. Which isn't really the point, since it would probably still be difficult to get that one day off, especially for a first year worker.

It really all depends on who you work for. I would guess that it would be better to be up front about taking the weekend off (though it is one of the bigger weekends out at TRF). Don't be surprised, though, if that doesn't get you the job.

It depends on who you work for. Tell them up front, but Halloween is a super busy weekend there and so they might really need their employees that weekend. When I worked there we were NEVER allowed to skip a weekend and anyone that did weren't allowed to come back. But I worked for nazis so....

If you apply to work for the festival itself, I would be surprised if they would allow you to take off. If you had an emergency (i.e. YOU were in the emergency room) then maybe. Taking off for celebrating would not. As a shopkeeper, I have employees that have needed to have a weekend off for something REALLY important. I would not consider this as that important (and yes, Halloween was my biggest holiday before I had to work the weekends around it).

We have 8 weekends to make the show work. The faire and vendors (most of us hiring people to work) have a butt-ton of money tied up in that show that we hope to get back. Working the show is very different from playing the show. If someone is not there or not going to be there, it creates a bunch of scheduling problems. Most of us hire the staff we need based on them being there all weekends. We do not have extra people to allow folks to take weekends off.
